IPART ESS HEER HVAC Multi-split RCAC with one outdoor unit and two indoor units - replacement vs new installation

IPART Email received 22 Oct 2025

Question: "We have had an installation arise under HEER HVAC detailed below. Would you be able to provide guidance on whether both new units would be classed as ‘replacements’, or if there is another more appropriate option? "

  • Existing Equipment: Multi-split RCAC with one outdoor unit, and two indoor units - all components are being decommissioned. Each indoor unit services the lounge room and a bedroom respectively.
  • New equipment: Two single split RCACs being installed in place of the multi-split. Two compressors, two indoor units. One unit to service the lounge room and one the bedroom.

IPART Response

From the description below, it appears that the implementation involves the replacement of the old EUE* (1 outdoor compressor with multi-unit (2) head indoor units) with one split system (1 outdoor compressor and single indoor unit) and the installation of New EUE* (new split system).
